Janet is a highly experienced pediatric occupational therapist in our Wheat Ridge office and surrounding homecare options.
Experienced • Practical • Personal
Janet Nicole Sykora, MA, B.Sc., OTR/L, is an experienced occupational therapist who has spent more than 39 years helping children, young adults, and families navigate developmental, sensory, motor, and everyday functional challenges.
At Medical Professional Connections, Janet provides individualized occupational therapy for children, teens, and young adults ages 21+. Services may be provided in the office, at home, at school, in the community, or through telehealth.
Before expanding her private practice, Janet spent more than two decades working within Colorado's school system. That experience gave her a practical understanding of how sensory, developmental, physical, educational, and environmental factors can affect participation throughout the day.
Janet's credentials reflect decades of hands-on experience, advanced education, and a longstanding commitment to helping children and families achieve meaningful progress.
Care Centered on the Individual
Every patient brings a different combination of strengths, needs, routines, interests, and goals.
Her patient-centered approach looks at the person, the activity, and the environment to determine what may be limiting participation. Therapy may involve developing a skill, adapting the task, modifying the environment, or introducing supportive tools.
Parents and caregivers are included throughout the process so they understand the purpose behind each recommendation and can confidently use strategies between sessions.
Techniques and Strategies Tailored to Everyday Life
Janet selects techniques and strategies based on each individual's abilities and meaningful goals.
Strategies that support sensory processing, regulation, body awareness, transitions, and participation in daily activities.
Practical support for dressing, grooming, feeding, hygiene, routines, organization, and age-appropriate independence.
Developmental strategies for gross motor, fine motor, visual-motor, coordination, play, and foundational functional skills.
Task modifications, supportive tools, and environmental adaptations that can make everyday activities more accessible.
Activities supporting whole-body strength, endurance, coordination, motor planning, functional movement, and neurological re-education.
Individualized techniques that may support regulation, body awareness, and quality of daily living.
Practical strategies that help older children and young adults prepare for greater independence, work, and community participation.
A Collaborative Approach
With appropriate permission, Janet may coordinate with the professionals involved in the child's care or education. Her collaborative experience includes working alongside:
This coordination can help create greater consistency across therapy, home, school, and community environments.
What Families Can Expect
“I want every child and family to feel heard, supported, and involved. Sometimes progress comes from developing a new skill. Other times, it comes from changing the task, adapting the environment, or finding a strategy that works better for that individual. My goal is to make therapy meaningful and useful in everyday life.”
